Giving Back This Holiday Season with Wood’s Homes

This holiday season, Sur-Flo was grateful to participate in Wood’s Homes for the Holidays for a second year, continuing our support of an initiative focused on easing the financial and emotional stress many families and children experience during this time of year. Wood’s Homes operates mental health centres across Alberta, supporting more than 20,000 at-risk and vulnerable children, youth, and families annually, with programs spanning Calgary, Strathmore, Lethbridge, and Fort McMurray.

As part of this year’s campaign, Sur-Flo purchased and wrapped gifts in support of one family and one program, delivering them directly to the Parkdale campus in Calgary.

The family supported is currently navigating a period of significant transition and loss. Connected to a school-based support program, the children are working through emotional and socioeconomic challenges that can make the holiday season especially difficult. Care was taken to select thoughtful, practical gifts—items chosen to bring comfort, familiarity, and a sense of stability during a time of change.

Sur-Flo also supported the U12 Stabilization Program, a short-term care program that provides a safe, structured environment for young children who require temporary behavioural and therapeutic support. While children are in the program, their families are given the opportunity to rest, regroup, and build the supports needed for reunification. Through professional guidance, individualized care plans, and therapeutic services, the program focuses on helping both children and caregivers move forward with confidence and long-term stability.

This holiday season, Sur-Flo’s contribution helped ensure that even for children who may not be home for the holidays, the spirit of the season still reached them—a quiet reminder that Santa can still find his way, no matter where a child may be.

These gifts represent more than holiday presents—they are a reminder that children and families facing challenges are supported and not alone. Sur-Flo is honoured to be a Miracle Maker again this year and deeply appreciative of the opportunity to participate for a second year.

The meters were deployed as drop-in replacements with no piping modifications and are built to perform reliably in demanding upstream Class I, Div 2 environments.

 The client had been relying on conventional PD meters in a key heavy oil region but began encountering ongoing issues, including:

On Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, Sur-Flo joined riders from across Alberta for the Fresh Start 12-Stop Ride to Recovery — a motorcycle event dedicated to raising awareness and support for recovery programs in our community.

The route stretched across 12 stops, creating opportunities to connect with fellow riders and show support for a cause that impacts countless lives. With every mile, participants helped fuel Fresh Start’s mission of providing individuals and families with the tools and support needed for long-term recovery.

Sur-Flo’s own Grant Matheson and Enrique rode alongside the group, representing our team and showing our support for Fresh Start’s incredible work. The Ride to Recovery was more than just a motorcycle run — it was a reminder of the power of unity, commitment, and giving back.

On February 22nd, Team Sur-Flo had the privilege of walking in the Coldest Night of the Year, supporting Woods Homes and their mission to help those experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.

After weeks of freezing temperatures, we caught a break with a mild evening—an ironic but welcome reminder of how unpredictable Calgary winters can be. While we were fortunate to enjoy a comfortable walk, many in our community don’t have the same security when it comes to shelter and warmth. That’s why we were out there, walking 5KM along the river, raising awareness and funds for those who don’t always have a warm place to go.

The event brought people together from all walks of life, united by a shared goal: to support organizations like Woods Homes that provide essential care and services to those who need them most. Conversations along the route reflected just how important these initiatives are—every step was a reminder of the challenges some face daily and how much of a difference community support can make.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we surpassed our fundraising goal! Every contribution goes directly to Woods Homes, helping provide shelter, meals, mental health services, and support programs for vulnerable individuals.

After the walk, participants gathered to reflect, connect, and celebrate the impact of coming together for a cause bigger than ourselves. The Coldest Night of the Year is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a moment to acknowledge the realities of those facing hardship and to take action in a meaningful way.

Sur-Flo Supports Wood’s Homes for the Holidays: Spreading Joy and Hope

This holiday season, Sur-Flo had the pleasure of joining Wood’s Homes in making the season a bit brighter for children and families in need. As part of the Wood’s Homes for the Holidays campaign, Sur-Flo bought and wrapped gifts for two families and one program, bringing joy and much-needed support during a time of the year that can be stressful for many.

Wood’s Homes, a children’s mental health center operating throughout Alberta, supports over 20,000 at-risk and vulnerable children, youth, and their families every year. Their programs provide crucial services, from outreach and live-in programs to mental health support and counseling. This year, Wood’s Homes is bringing hope to over 700 people across its many programs in Calgary, Strathmore, Lethbridge, and Fort McMurray.

Sur-Flo was proud to deliver gifts to the Parkdale campus, ensuring that two families and the U12 Collingwood Program would experience the magic of the holidays. The families we supported are part of the William Taylor Learning Centre, a school that helps children with emotional regulation and school engagement. These families, facing financial challenges, were touched by the support, receiving items carefully chosen to meet their unique needs.

For the first family, a mother and her two children, Sur-Flo provided thoughtful gifts to bring comfort and joy during a challenging time. After facing the financial strain of a recent job loss, this caring and connected family is working hard to regain stability. The gifts aimed to ease their burden and add a sense of warmth and holiday magic to their season.

The second family, supported by a grandmother caring for her grandson and two uncles, received gifts that were both practical and heartfelt. A particularly touching gift we were able to give was Lavender candles in memory of the child in the family’s mother. The Sur-Flo team is excited to give these gifts that will help make the holiday season special for this family after a trying year full of changes and adjustments.

For the U12 Collingwood Program, which provides a safe and supportive environment for six young children awaiting their next homes, Sur-Flo delivered a thoughtful selection of gifts to bring joy and comfort. Items such as Lego sets, baking kits, and makeup kits were among the surprises that brightened the children’s holiday season, offering them moments of creativity and fun during their transition.

The gifts, delivered with care and wrapped with love, symbolized more than just holiday cheer—they brought hope and a reminder that these families and children are not alone. Sur-Flo is honored to contribute to this meaningful initiative and to be a Miracle Maker this holiday season.

Sur-Flo Hits the Ground Running at the CIBC Run for the Cure

This past weekend, the Sur-Flo team laced up and hit the pavement for the CIBC Run for the Cure—and wow, what an incredible morning it was! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. The weather was on our side, the energy was electric, and our team, decked out in our brightest gear, joined thousands of others across the country in raising funds and awareness for breast cancer.

And when we say “big,” we mean BIG. This year’s Run brought together 55,000 participants nationwide, raising an astounding $15 million for breast cancer research and programs! It was amazing to be part of such a huge event, knowing that our steps were helping drive change and support those affected by breast cancer.

At Sur-Flo, we’re all about community—and there’s no better feeling than giving back while having a great time with the team. We had so much fun and are already planning to come back next year with even brighter costumes, louder cheers, and bigger smiles!

A massive thank you to everyone who cheered us on and contributed to this incredible cause. Together, we’re making strides (literally!) towards a future without breast cancer. Let’s do it again next year!

On September 9th, the Sur-Flo team traded in our office gear for golf clubs and hit the links at the Heaven Can Wait golf tournament at the beautiful Sirocco Golf Club. With sunshine, great company, and some friendly competition, it turned into an unforgettable day!

We didn’t just sponsor a hole—we played the course! From long drives to a few (okay, maybe more than a few) sand traps, the day was full of laughs, high-fives, and a couple of impressive shots. To top it off, our very own leader, Darrell Nelson,  won the Men’s Closest to the Pin challenge!

The turnout was amazing, and it was awesome to see everyone come together, all in support of a great cause. Whether we were lining up tricky putts or just soaking in the incredible atmosphere, it was clear this event was more about bringing people together than just perfecting our golf game.

A huge shout-out to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who made the day run so smoothly. We’re already practicing for next year and can’t wait to see what’s in store!

Who knew lawn bowling could be so tricky? The Sur-Flo team headed out to the annual Zimco Lawn Bowling tournament, ready to channel our inner pros… only to find out that lawn bowling requires a lot more finesse than we thought! But hey, we gave it our best shot—and even though we didn’t quite make the semi-finals this year, we had an absolute blast along the way.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Sun shining, light breeze—ideal conditions for a day of friendly competition (and maybe a few unintentional gutter balls). But the best part? Laughing and strategizing with our team while trying to figure out just how much spin is too much spin!

Although we didn’t walk away with a trophy, we definitely walked away with some great memories—and a new appreciation for the subtle art of lawn bowling. You can bet we’ll be practicing our technique and coming back with some fresh moves for next year’s tournament!

A big thank you to Zimco for putting together such an awesome day, and to all the teams that joined in on the fun. It was great seeing so many familiar faces, and the energy was contagious from start to finish. We’re already counting down the days until the next one!

APPLICATION: Teine Energy operates several oil fields in Western Canada and uses produced water and manufactured polymer injection to enhance oil recovery. Accurate and reliable measurement of both the water and polymer injection is essential for optimizing production, minimizing costs, and maintaining their commitment to environmental responsibility. 

ABOUT TEINE ENERGY

Teine Energy is an oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Calgary, Canada. They focus on the exploration and development of oil and gas resources in Western Canada and have several production sites in the region.

WHO IS SUR-FLO?

 Sur-Flo is a leading manufacturer of flow measurement equipment for the oil and gas industry. They specialize in developing innovative technologies that accurately measure the flow of fluids such as oil, gas, and water. 

THE CHALLENGE

 Teine Energy was facing challenges in accurately measuring the flow of injection water and manufactured polymer with their existing measurement equipment, which consisted of conventional turbines. They were continuously plugging due to the high debris and scale entrained in the water, which led to premature wear and tear of turbine internals and constant rebuilds, and repairs. This, in turn, was affecting their ability to accurately measure injection flow rates, while also tying up operator’s time, which increased operating costs. 

“As a responsible energy company we were looking for a reliable and consistent meter to use with our leak detection system. The Sur-Flo paddle meters fit the requirements we were looking for. The meters are also easy to repair in the field, they’re user friendly, and Sur-Flo provides good customer service whenever we need to reach out to them.”

Teine Energy

SUR-FLO’S SOLUTION FOR TEINE ENERGY

Teine Energy approached Sur-Flo to provide a solution to their measurement challenges. Considering the high debris liquid, Sur-Flo recommended their patented Paddle Meter technology due to it’s open bore design. 

The Paddle Meter’s open bore design allows high debris and high viscosity fluids to pass through with ease, minimizing the risk of plugging. In addition, the paddle wheel spins with the flow, as opposed to against it, which drastically minimizes wear on the blades, significantly increasing meter longevity. 

Teine Energy was also able to save time, considering the Paddle Meter’s top mount assembly. In the field, this means their operators can access internals without having to dismount the meter from the line; making service and repairs substantially easier, which also drastically reduces down time. 

Overall, the Paddle Meter’s ability to handle high debris and high viscosity fluids, combined with its durability and ease of maintenance, made it an ideal solution for Teine Energy’s measurement challenges. 

THE RESULT

Teine Energy installed Sur-Flo’s Paddle Meter technology at their injection sites and saw immediate improvements in measurement accuracy and meter reliability. The Paddle Meter’s ability to handle high debris and high viscosity fluids, combined with its durability and ease of maintenance, eliminated the need for constant rebuilds and repairs. This, in turn, allowed Teine Energy to optimize production and minimize costs, ultimately improving their bottom line.
